Fashion Beat: Hayden Panettiere Criticized for Buying Tom Ford Dress For 2014 Golden Globes

It’s winter, so I’m expecting there to be shade in the atmosphere, but I cannot deal with the gloomy fashion-hate that Jim Shi sent Hayden Panettier’s way over her choice to wear an off-the-rack Tom Ford Dress to the 2014 Golden Globe Awards. Here’s what the fashion journalist tweeted about the “Nashville” star’s  black-and-white gown:

Where’s Antoine Dodson and Sweet Brown when you need them? Jim Shi clearly needs to know that “Ain’t nobody got time for that!” Boy bye! *Pulls out chair for you to have a seat* This is so unnecessary.

When asked about her dress on the E! News red carpet Hayden said:

“It’s the first time I’ve ever worn (Tom Ford), because I’ve been begging…I feel sexy in it, I feel comfortable in it, and I’m in Tom Ford. I would wear a plastic bag if it was designed by him.”

I hate when people do things like this and perpetuate the notion that fashion is snooty, elitist and superficial. I for one, can appreciate a 24-year-old, working woman buying a designer gown and shutting down the red carpet in the most fashionable of ways. You go Hayden!

Clearly, Tom Ford agrees because he sent a bouquet of white flowers and a sweet card praising how fabulous she looked in his design on the red carpet. (Take that Jim Shi!)

What do you think of Jim Shi throwing shade at Hayden Panettiere for wearing a Tom Ford dress?

Ciao Bellas,

  • His response was all forms of rude. God forbid a celebrity purchase of dress of THEIR choosing to wear to an award show rather than borrowing it for free from a show room. God, what has this world come to?

Ugh. Kudos to her. It’s refreshing to see an entertainer do what they want.
