Beauty Crush: MAC Viva Glam Rihanna Lipstick + Swatches & Review

A few days ago, I shared news that Rihanna and MAC Cosmetics were, once again, creating beauty greatness with their latest collaboration. They really can’t seem to get enough of each other!  This time around the beauty brand has made the Bad Gal the face of their 2014 Viva Glam campaign.

In true Rihanna fashion, the packaging for her lipstick has a touch of her originality. It’s clad with her signature and engulfed in a red tube instead of the black tubes we’re accustomed to seeing MAC Viva Glam lippies in. The texture of this lipstick is very smooth and it layers well. It’s also one of those red hues that really looks good on all skin tones.

I totally thought they would release another  Retro Matte lippie  (which I love), but they pulled a fast-one and graced us with a beautiful poppy-hued frost lipstick and lipglass duo. This red merges the perfect blend of texture and pigmentation for a beautifully finished look.

I’m usually an absolute lover of matte red lipstick, but this frost is absolutely gorgeous. I’ve been getting compliments like crazy!

Viva Glam Rihanna lipstick and lipglass go on sale online in the U.S. on January 21 and is available in stores on January 23.

What do you think of Rihanna’s MAC Viva Glam lipstick?

*I received a free sample of this product for review. All opinions are my own.

Ciao Bellas,

  • I absolutely love reds and I was really looking forward to this lipstick, but frost finishes look kind of weird on me. I definitely need to check this lipstick out in stores before buying it.

    • Hi Hao. I felt the same way, but this frost is very pigmented and has somewhat of a jewel toned red look to it. Hope you find that it suits you well! Thanks for stopping by!

  • That color looks GREAT on you! I’m always on the look out for red lipsticks that look good on deep skin tones, so I really appreciate this review. I almost bought RiRi Woo a few months ago, but I went with Diva instead. Like you, I LOVE mattes. And I love most MAC lipsticks, so I’m curious how I’ll like Rihanna’s Viva Glam. I’m going to try it out next time I go to the mall.

Great review, and this is @shanicejcameron on Twitter by the way. 🙂

    • Hi, Shanice thanks so much for stopping by and checking out the review. I haven’t tried Diva, yet, so I’ll have to check it out during my next MAC run! Really appreciate your support!

  • I appreciate you reviewing this as I always find it hard to find swatches on darker skin tones. It was great of them to send it out to you. The color looks nice but very similar to Riri Woo. I understand it is a frost but I am not able to clearly see the difference from your photos. While I love the packaging and the cause, I might have to pass on this one or wait til is can try it in store.

    • Hi Ms.Reyes, thanks for stopping by! You’re right that they do look similar, but I think once you swatch them, you’ll see the difference. The Viva Glam lippie has more of shimmery finish whereas the RiRi woo has that retro matte look. I think I’ll do a quick side-by-side comparison post. Appreciate your feedback!

  • I’m really surprised how nice a frost red lip came out. This looks great on with your skin tone, I’m afraid someone lighter might look a little too 80’s. Is this similar to how angel is a frost, but doesn’t really seem like one? Not an overbearing frost finish?

    • Hi Juanita, it has more of a rich, jewel-toned finish. It’s definitely not your everyday frost. I was hesitant to try it because I’m not a big fan of frosts because I feel like they’re much-too shimmery, but this is more toned-down. Definitely stop by your local MAC counter and swatch it for yourself. I think you’ll be surprised.

    • Hi Melissa, thanks for checking out the review. I wasn’t able to get my hands on the lipglass, Le Sigh… I’ll be heading to a MAC store tomorrow to test it out.

  • The colour looks so amazing on you!! But do you think it will suit around NC20 shades as i havent got a chance to look at it in store and i dont really trust the colour on MAC’s website hehe

    Thankyou x

    • Thanks for stopping by Emilie and thanks for the compliment! Yes, I definitely think it can work with a lighter complexion. If you feel as though the satin undertones are too much maybe you can line and fill your lips with a brick red liner to nullify some of the shimmer and poppy-color of the lipstick. I honestly think that with or without a darker liner you can definitely pull it off!
