My introduction to LaQuan Smith’s design aesthetic started back in 2010 when I saw Rihanna looking all kinds of fly in one of his bodysuits in her “Rude Boy” music video.
This year during the New York Fashion Week festiviteis LaQuan Showed his Fall 2013 collection.
With inspiration ranging from Lil Kim’s Crush on You looks, Strange’ (Grace Jones’ character in the movie Boomerang), and James Bong, the designer served up all kinds of innovative, envelop-pushing chic-but-street styles.
The mostly black and white collection varied in the use of texture with leather, PVC, lace and fur. I loved the cropped tops and flirty skirts.
I can definitely see these pieces in more music videos and on somebody’s stage!
