Beauty Beat: Interview With Celebrity Hairstylist Vonveva Denham!

Anytime I get the chance to chat fashion and beauty with a fellow glamour-obsessed individual, it puts a huge smile on my face! I just bubble with excitement when I’m giving and sharing tips with someone who’s just as over-the-top and passionate about the F&B (fashion and beauty) worlds as I am! That’s why I was smiling from ear-to-ear when I caught up the super-talented and amazingly gorgeous celebrity hairstylist Voneva Denham aka VonevaGlamVoneva has also worked with the cast of the hit BET show “The Game” (I totes have major hair envy for Melanie and Tasha!)  and has also showcased her talents on “The Janice Dickenson Modeling Agency,” as well as on one of my go-to TV stations TLC. This California native, who also works heavily in Atlanta, clearly puts in work! Keep reading to see what VonevaGlam said about being having a glam career, Spring/Summer 2012 hair trends, her awesome non-profit organization, and fashion staples that are her closet mainstays .

M: For the people who don’t know, tell me, who is Voneva “Glam?

VG: I’m a hairstylist and glam expert. I’m also a loving daughter and mother and a big sister.

M: I kinda stumbled into the beauty world during college, have you always know that you wanted to work in beauty and entertainment?

VG: I’ve always been into music and entertainment. I grew up in the church, and started singing when I was five. In middle school and high school I really go into hair by doing my friends’ hair and coloring and messing up my own hair! (laughs) I always had the drive and passion for it, and always knew hair is what I wanted to do.

M: How did you get your start working with high-caliber clientele?

VG: I started behind the chair. I did photo shoots, and a music video with a friend who was a wardrobe stylist. I got other jobs after from there. GM: How long have you been in the business of glam? VG: I’ve been working as a hairstylist for 8 years and I love it. It allows me to enjoy the creative process.

M: You mentioned that you’re a mother, is your child a mini-version of you?

VG: I have a daughter named Indigo and she’s the princess of the brand. I see a mini-version of myself in her. She has a lot of creativity and she loves brainstorming and thinking outside of the box. She’s actually more toned-down than I am. I’m over-the-top and gaudy!

M: Spring/Summer 2012 is all about new, fresh beginnings, what hair trends will be hot this season?

VG: Effortless, unpolished hair! We’ll see a lot of messy side braids and messy buns . Also, ombre hair. It’s a trend from last year, but it’s recently popping up everywhere. Dirtier ombre colors will be hot, like ashy blonde and black and red. Jet-black hair with a nice tan will also be hot. Even a blue-black color would be great! There are no rules in beauty, especially when it comes to creative expression.

M: What hair products are on your go-to list?

VG:

M: You have an amazing non-profit organization called Glam For Life. Why are you so passionate about this project?

VG: In 2007 my mom died by suicide and my mom’s mom died of suicide, so I’m a third-generation suicide survivor. It’s a real issue and epidemic, especially in the black community. I host a lot of conferences and have speaking engagements and workshops with the goal to prevent the disparity and inform people about culturally sensitive therapists and resources.

M: You seem like such a well-rounded person. I bet you have an impeccable fashion sense. What are some of your favorite Spring/Summer 2012 fashion trends?

VG: I do have an eye for fashion. I’m a beauty and glamour person overall. I love the idea of anything glamorous! I’m into color-blocking and I love neon colors. I’m a neon fanatic!

This is absolutely my king of girl! We totally agreed that a blue-black hair color would looke haute on me this Summer, so I’m going to give it a try! Learn more about Voneva and her super-glam tastesby visiting her website.
