5 Ways To Make Your Home More Zen

Home is where the heart is, but home should also be where the Zen is! There is no better feeling thatn having a sense of peace that surpasses all understanding, and the best place to experience this is in the comfort of your own home!

I’ve recently moved into a new house and have been taking a more selective approach to the items that I use to set the mood in every room. I really want to create a safe and inviting space that’s filled with love for my family. Having a sense of Zen has been the underlying theme for the way I lay everything out.

There have been proven physical and mental benefits to creating a relaxing living space, plus, you know I’m all about promoting self-care and this is yet another way that you can implement it through decor.

Here are 5 ways to make your home more Zen.

1. Declutter

There are several health benefits to decluttering your space such reduced stress and anxiety, more confidence, better sleep, clarity and peace of mind. Who knew that a good old binge could lead to such good vibes?!

If decluttering a full room seems overwhelming, start with a small space like your closet and work your way up to larger spaces; pace yourself and prepare to reap the benefits of your streamlined living space!

2. Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy has sooooo many benefits to your health and can absolutely enhance your living space! They can do everything from boosting your energy level to relieving anxiety and depression. I love essential oil diffusers and candles and have them in just about every room in my home.

Here are a few fragrances to consider for a more Zen space:

  • Lavender- Calming, lowers anxiety and improves sleep
  • Eucalyptus- Cleans and freshens air in the home; also stimulates the immune system
  • Lemon- Has antibacterial and antifungal poperties that are great for cleaning dishes and surfaces in the home. Can also ease congetion in the body.

3. Crystals

You can totally enhance the vibe of your space by adding crystals to your decor through the energy gemstones absorb and release. You can accentuate your space with a lamp, vase or a decorative piece that’s made of gemstones, or you can accentuate your space with just the stone itself… get creative!

Here are a few crystals to consider for a more Zen space:

  • Rose quartz-  a stone of the heart and unconditional love; balances yin and yang and has a feminine energy of healing and comfort
  • Amethyst- represents healing of the mind, body and spirit; protects against negative energy
  • Clear quartz- this tone is known as the “master healer”; it absorbs, stores, releases and regulates energy and aids in concentration and brings the body balance

4. Update your library

Bring calmness and clarity to your space by adding inspirational books to your personal library. Reading inspirational poems, quotes and other literature with positive messages is a great form of self-care and it’s sure to bring peace personally.

The more at peace you are within, the more likely that positive energy will shine through into your personal space. Some of my favorite reads include Year of Yes by Shonda Rhimes, What I Know for Sure by Oprah and Neon Soul by Alex Elle

5. Add plants

Indoor plants add a cleansing presence to your home. They reduce carbon dioxide levels, reduce airborne dust, keep air temperatures down and on top of that they look add a beautiful touch of character to your space.

If you have a green thumb add some beautiful live plants to different rooms in your home. If you’re like me and aren’t the best at keeping plants alive, try artificial plants or succulents.
