B&B friends, can I keep it real with y’all for a minute?

I’ve been a bit of an emotional wreck lately. Recently, I shared how self-awareness helped me get my joy back after going through a rough patch in my professional life, and I still leverage the principles that I discussed in that article to keep my sanity, but it’s an ongoing process. While, I definitely have more peace within and I have a healthy personal life, not much has changed on the professional front.

No matter how many positive affirmations, prayers and personal  mantras I release into the universe, the truth of the matter is, change won’t come until I actively enforce it. That’s why I’ve decided to boss up and not be afraid of seeing what’s on the other side of fear.

How am I going to boss up? I’m happy you asked.

After having the epiphany that you have to boss up in order to be a boss, I sat down in a quiet place and decided to put my aspirations on paper. Here are three things that I did in my quest to boss up and kiss this funk that I’ve been in goodbye.

1. I wrote a list of my professional goals and ranked them by priority with immediate goals first and long-term goals on the latter end of the list.

2. I also wrote a list of my personal goals and ranked them using the same format.

3. Next, I went back to my lists and wrote down action plans for how I plan to make these things happen. For example, one of my goals is to get more professional development to help me sell myself to potential future employers, so I wrote a list of resources like books, webinars, networking events and companies that offer paid continuing education opportunities for their employees. In addition to seeking resources, I’ve reached out to some potential contacts to really get the ball rolling.

I know this is a lot of lists, but I believe that you have to write your vision and make it plain if you want to experience your best life! Plus, you can’t grow where you don’t sow, right?
